Kayhan Kalhor and Erdal Erzincan
Kayhan Kalhor returns for another stellar evening, this year bringing his longtime collaborator Turkish baglama maestro Erdal Erzincan.
Persian and Turkish traditions have much in common and share the ancient modal system known as maqam and the music performed by these two virtuoso artists, while derived from ancient roots, is thoroughly modern. Kalhor, one of today’s most exciting and creative artists, is a soulful master of the kamancheh, the Persian spiked fiddle. Adored worldwide for his enthralling performances, Kalhor is known for his stirring improvisations, exquisite compositions, and extensive collaborations with Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble, Brooklyn Rider, Kronos Quartet, Osvaldo Golijov, Ghazal Ensemble, and orchestras around the world. Erzincan is one of the most well known traditional musicians of his generation.
