Fado Festival: Legends of Fado: Carlos do Carmo with special guest Celesta Rodrigues (NY Debuts)
This concerts marks a historic night for fado music with Portugal’s most famed artists performing in New York for the first time.
Carlos do Carmo, celebrating more than fifty years as the leading male voice of fado, is a living legend for this most iconic Portuguese tradition. A hugely beloved and cherished figure, do Carmo has been involved with virtually every connection and reference to fado including its inclusion into the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2011. An incomparable master of song, his voice goes hand in hand with longing, unrequited love, solitude, and optimistic hope for the future.
Fado’s other living treasure, Celesta Rodrigues, the 93 year old younger sister of Amalia, embodies fado’s saudade in all its facets and will join Mr do Carmo making for an unforgettable and historic evening.
